Since 1976

Fifty years on one street.

The same counter, the same family, the same scales. This is where it started.

Where it *started*.
Where it started — Mahmooda Jewellers, 1976.

The beginning

Where it started.

Green Street has been East London's gold street for as long as anyone can remember, and Mahmooda Jewellers has been part of it since 1976.

It began the way these shops do — one counter, one safe, one set of scales, and a family that knew gold. The cabinets in this photograph are the same trade we are in today: bridal sets chosen together, everyday 22-carat worn daily, and the people who came back because they were dealt with straight.

Fifty years is long enough to be judged on it. Long enough that a bridal set chosen here comes back to be cleaned before the next wedding in the family, and that the person who sold it is still behind the counter.

The house today

We are not a chain and not a warehouse with a website. We are a shop on Green Street with a counter, a safe and a set of scales and a family that has stood behind them for half a century.

Come and see it in person.

Gold is worth looking at properly. We are at 131 Green Street, Forest Gate — open seven days a week.
